Interviews

Laurent Perrier - Sound On Probation
Some labels exist essentially as a vehicle for the output of a single artist and his several project. To date, that is the case with French label Sound On Probation owned by Laurent Perrier. In the 80's and 90's Perrier was part of the industrial projects Nox and Cape Fear and ran the Odd Size label, more recently he is known for work in the field of choreographic music and for releases under the names Zonk't and Heal.

Reviews

Lingouf - Kovoclak
Somebody once described this album as sounding like 'a pack of fluffy but insane bunnies armed with steak knives while high on speed & LSD going on a murder spree - sort of an even more twisted version of Happy Tree Friends'. A fitting, and perhaps hard to top, description.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_lingouf_k.htm

MCKMN - Orphan Ristophe
This is a debut album, so of course there are a few elements, such as mixing and production, that could be refined and developed in future works, but without a doubt "Orphan Ristophe" is a solid debut. If you like sad/cinematic/melodic music and/or trip hop, but you like upbeat, um, beats, then you should check this out.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mckmn_or.htm

Fractional - Still Life?
Each track plods along somewhere between whimsy and melancholy without ever really breaching the boundaries of either. With the short track lengths (nothing makes it to four minutes), there is not much time for building or evolution. I'd say the biggest flaw here is that none of the tracks really go anywhere. It's just a collection of sort-of-interesting-sounds that play for a while and then stop.

Reviews

Aidan Baker & The Infant Cycle - Rural Sprawl
Powerful and inspiring, "Rural Sprawl" is the kind of music you'll want to get lost in, not in the sense of being "lost" but rather allowing these stunning pieces to flow through your entire body, seeping into the unreachable corners of your mind, and enabling you to float away on whatever implausible daydream you care to have.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_aidanbakerinfantcycle_rs.htm

Prometheus Burning - Plague Called HuMANity
From the first awed glimpse of Paul McCarroll's surreal cover art to the initial throbbing anguished moans of "The Box", this latest album from what are quite possibly one of the most exciting acts in industrial and electro music today leaves the listener with some fairly high expectations. Expectations that are, for the most part, fulfilled very well.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_prometheusburning_pch.htm

Keef Baker - Pen Fifteen
Where "Pen Fifteen" experiments largely with combining various forms of guitar and electronica, "Light City" is more for the electronic purist and no-holds-barred after-hours fun. If "Light City" is representative of his live appearances, Baker must deliver some interesting sets with a careful balance of furious rhythms contrasted with gentler tones.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_keefbaker_pf.htm

Blindhaed - Whether That Will Make People Want To Become Archaeologists, We'll Have To See
Twenty minutes of highly artistically responsible sounds, which is for some people more interesting than for others. The guts it takes to release a single-sided LP in the era of CDs and MP3s is extremely praiseworthy and a larger future is ahead of this Belgian/Indonesian collaborative effort.

Reviews

Tonikom - The Sniper's Veil
Tonikom's sophomore release on Hymen Records, "The Sniper's Veil", is a wholly satisfying exercise in breakbeats. Most everything appearing on Tonikom's latest shows fantastic cohesion, simplicity, musicianship and, it must be said, an intriguingly feminine essence.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tonikom_sv.htm

Necrotek - Menschfeind
It must also be said that this album is perhaps something of an anomaly - one that wears its influences so obviously has no business twisting new and interesting sounds from such familiar raw materials in such style as this. As a result - particularly if you hanker for the days of industrial of the old school - this is an intriguing and essential purchase.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_necrotek_m.htm

the Gothsicles - Sega Lugosi's Dead
If you can leave all seriousness behind and enjoy "Sega Lugosi's Dead" for a really fun CD that doesn't mind poking fun at just about everything, then you'll love this latest offering by the Gothsicles. It's sheer genius in stupid form!
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_gothsicles_sld.htm

Amesha Spenta - Amesha Spenta
"Amesha Spenta" as an album is relentless, even in its ambient passages, and however sedate the bpm might be. It is dense, secretive, and part of a floating realm, suspended between the occidental and oriental with chime-like melodies and shivering tones, supported by spine tingling beat structures.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ameshaspenta_as.htm

Sister Loolomie & Kryptogen Rundfunk - [w]interloop
Each track plods along somewhere between whimsy and melancholy without ever really breaching the boundaries of either. With the short track lengths (nothing makes it to four minutes), there is not much time for building or evolution. I'd say the biggest flaw here is that none of the tracks really go anywhere. It's just a collection of sort-of-interesting-sounds that play for a while and then stop.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_sisterloolomiekryptogenrundfunk_w.htm

High Wycombe - Reverser
If you like Haujobb's eclecticism, chances are you'll appreciate "Reverser". Otherwise you'll at least admire the astonishing exercise of faithfully integrating some strongly contrasting influences into one polished product.

Reviews

Anhedonia - Ontology
"Ontology" is a gorgeous piece of work, with massive emphasis on mood, but its presence is somewhat muted and tentative, hardly as sure of itself as previous works. A pity, really, because this is one talented artist indeed, and this recording doesn't quite fulfill expectations based on his previous offerings. It's still very good, though, just difficult to listen to.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_anhedonia_o.htm

Kryptogen Rundfunk + Hladna - Rokton + Formanta
This work's final result are three long untitled tracks, meditative and disturbing at the same time, which will please all the lovers of the ambient-noise and drone genres - all those who enjoy good sound design more than any kind of enchanting melodies or pounding beats.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_kryptogenrundfunkhladna_rf.htm

Niko Skorpio - Psylocibe Necrophilia
Based on a pretty unusual concept: the raw materials used for all of its tracks are old tapes of the artist's early bands from the 80's (essentially heavy metal demos and live bootlegs), which have been completely destroyed, cut, re-edited and processed to eventually obtain some brand new material, which absolutely doesn't sound like heavy metal anymore, but more fits into the dark ambient and drone genres.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_nikoskorpio_pn.htm

Taphephobia - Anomie
On one side of the coin they hit the nail on the head and are gripping, intriguing and magical; on the flip side they drift a little too much into the mundane and dull.  The best parts of this album, however, do make up for a lot of their failings.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_taphephobia_a.htm

Ministry of Rites - Grid
When Ministry of Rites do get it right (and they have the ability), it is genuinely engaging and listenable; it's just that fifty percent of the time they just seem to faff about too much.  Something for those with very eclectic tastes that disappointingly just comes somewhere short of approaching other audiences and fails.

Interviews

Amesha Spenta - an interview with Sebastien Béné-Le Touarin
A newcomer to the French label/collective Audiotrauma, Amesha Spenta welcomes the listener into a universe of distorded progressive electronic music with ethno-cultural references to the Zoroastrian religion of ancient Persia.

Reviews

Cisfinitum - Nevmenosis
Voronovsky describes his music as 'metaphysical ambient', a description which may not be that off the mark if one is to judge by this release. Throughout "Nevmenosis", Cisfinitum manages to convey a feeling of timelessness and distance, showing the listener hints of a greater whole and different perspectives which could not be described in any other way but through music.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_cisfinitum_n.htm

v4w.enko - Harmonic Ratio
Nothing about "Harmonic Ratio" suggests any kind of harmony, in a conventional musical sense or otherwise; this is a decidedly uncomfortable, nerve-wracking experience. But then you consider Kvitnu's slogan: "High Blood Pressure Music" and realise it's not meant to be calming.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_v4wenko_hr.htm

Murder By Static - Danceland Dead
"Danceland Dead" distills the love one may (or may not) have for late-90s jungle, and filters it through a more updated feel. While one may have a hard time remembering the individual tracks, it's a great album to listen to as a whole and highly recommended for dicing vegetables or angering your neighbors while drinking your morning coffee.

Reviews

Kreuzer / Surma - Viltis
As far as dark ambient music goes, "Viltis" is perhaps one of the most exciting and stirring releases in recent times, despite the relative freshness of the two talented producers it showcases.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_viltis.htm

Orchestramaxfieldparrish presents ÆRA - To the Last Man / Index of Dreaming
Themed around memories and dreams respectively, this double pick up on themes from Fazio's Orchestramaxfieldparrish neo-classical ambient project, with an emphasis on the droning, textural electronic elements of his music; both discs exhibiting short spells of more immediacy and anxiety, appropriate for the differing moods and emotions that can be associated with memories or dreams alike.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_orchestramaxfieldparrish_ttlmiod.htm

Totakeke - The Things That Disappear When I Close My Eyes
The most (guilt-free) enjoyable aspect of this album is its use of dissonance (whether intentional or not) and of atonal arpeggios. At its stronger moments "The Things That Disappear When I Close My Eyes" has a slight Anton Webern feel to it.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_totakeke_tttdwicme.htm

Terra Sancta - Disintegration
Acceptable, unfortunately, is not synonymous with memorable. In an aural universe built primarily out of drones and wind sweeps, it is easy to travel the route of convention and fall prey to mediocrity. In Terra Sancta's case, the addition of epic orchestral tones would transform this musical one night stand into a stand up release. For now it remains a cocktease.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_terrasancta_d.htm

Nommo Ogo - Space Cross
An experimental project with a fondness for acoustic instruments, abstract soundscapes and drones, Nommo Ogo is a collective of multi-sensory artists and musicians with, interestingly enough, Alaskan origins. In addition to their recorded material, core members Djynnx Ogo, Eyebrane and Higerous Johannes view the performance of their live electronic and electro-acoustic music as an essential characteristic of their work.

Reviews

Connect_icut - They Showed Me The Secret Beaches
Over the course of his several releases Macklin has developed his own sound, utilizing instruments processed through Max/MSP. He has become adept at making the electronic sound and feel very organic which is why, in a world of plastic-sounding computer music, this is something very refreshing to listen to.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_connecticut_tsmtsb.htm

Flatline Skyline - All Sound / No Vision
A multifaceted album that confronts listeners with pop tendencies, taking inspiration from the sharp beats, brimming bass and lyrical delivery of indie rock's more electronic leanings, and similarly finds substance with a blended new wave versus old industrial feel. Flatline Skyline overall benefits from its oddly familiar genre-bending forms and passionate articulation.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_flatlineskyline_asnv.htm

Rubik - Carrion EP
"Brevity is the soul of wit" is a saying that also applies to small bite-sized releases like this limited edition three-track 12" by the relatively obscure London-based artist Rubik. "Carrion EP" is one of those things that have a touch of the unexpected, hinting at a lot of potential and quite a few ideas, but pretty much stopping short of giving away the artist's failings.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_rubik_c.htm

UberByte - Dos
"Dos" may not be clever, it may not be original and it may not be the best production quality available in an oversaturated genre, but it is fun. This is musical entertainment for those of a darker bent, but not too dark to preclude having a sense of humour.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_uberbyte_dos.htm

Pleasant and quirky as it may be when one begins to listen to it, halfway through chances are that the listener will get a nagging feeling of déjà vu. And here lies the main problem with this release, a definite lack of variety - something which might not be such an issue if this had been released as an EP.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_bellalune_av.htm

Connect_icut - They Showed Me The Secret Beaches
Over the course of his several releases Macklin has developed his own sound, utilizing instruments processed through Max/MSP. He has become adept at making the electronic sound and feel very organic which is why, in a world of plastic-sounding computer music, this is something very refreshing to listen to.

Reviews

:papercutz - Lylac
Very much recommended to those with a taste for electronica or pop music with a twist - pop music doesn't have to be the cheesy stuff you find on the charts; sometimes you get albums like this, filled with melodies, rhythms and vocals, that uplifts, inspires and somehow restores a little faith that music can still surprise you and still give you something new. Sweet, soothing and intoxicating...
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_papercutz_l.htm

SE - Epiphora
With an altogether ethereal feel, this isn't like clear-cut IDM, as instruments aren't buried under a slab of unintelligible glitches - in fact, it's the glitches that take a back seat and lets the instrumentation take you somewhere different. An absolute must have for those with a Gridlock-shaped loss in their lives, and for everyone else, this is just recommended to show you that electronic can be tear-inducingly beautiful.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_se_e.htm

Coreline - Bone and Blood as Stone and Mud
It's sometimes been hard to reconcile the two facets of Chris McCall's output - the seemingly ultra-serious music and the joyously insane live shows. But here, somehow, we may have the missing link at last. Like some kind of mad scientist (or inventor?) anything that may work is hurled into the mix - presumably from a safe distance just in case it blows up in his face - and it's to his immense credit that the vast majority of these ideas actually work
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_coreline_babasam.htm

Cyclotimia - Music For Stockmarkets
A challenging soundscape with some excellent moments of chill, dark electronica featuring the unique sounds of vintage Soviet equipment and field recordings. It's like the reserved, avant-garde cousin of Oil 10, the guy that sits in the corner somewhere on the edge of serenity and anxiety while everyone else is out back having a beer.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_cyclotimia_mfs.htm

Surma - Allocutio
Surma's initial foray into the desolate world of martial ambient electronics, on the split EP "Viltis" (shared with fellow Eastern Front grouch-merchants, Kreuzer) was exciting listening, hinting at a potential far beyond the pedestrian doom-and-gloom peddled en masse by similar artists in the genre. Thus, the debut album, "Allocutio" has more than its fair share of hype to live up to...
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_surma_a.htm

Aphorism - Surge
Fresh from Chicago comes Aphorism's "Surge", a conventional electronica album that somehow fell in with a bad crowd and came out reeking of industrial and IDM fallout. While it may not be the most exciting release within the darker side of technoid, Aphorism's "Surge" is nevertheless worth listening to.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_aphorism_s.htm

Noises of Russia - Experimental Structure
Documents a live performance by Noises of Russia in St. Petersburg and a musical departure from the death industrial commonly associated with Noises Of Russia - offering instead improvised collages of field recordings from nature, treated instruments, shamanistic chants and sparse industrial noises. Together they form a soundscape which conveys an impression of the performance as a very esoteric experience.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_noisesofrussia_es.htm

Samarkande - 3 Synapses
Samarkande are introduced on their website as an apparently experimental group that create by way of improvisation, and to "break the rigidity of electro-acoustic and electronic music". Quite what the latter point means in practice is a difficult one to answer, it seems.

Interviews

Kibuka / Nohno - an interview with Dean Dennis & Jose Snook (part 1)
Kibuka is a new project from Dean Dennis & collaborator Snook. Dean is known for his work with Clock DVA, TAGC, Sector & most recently Nohno. Kibuka provides an outlet for the more beat driven and anti-social side of the artists' personalities and stylistically it draws upon Dennis' earlier work with Clock DVA and early Sector.

Reviews

Angina P - Sensitive Files
The only downside to the IDM-influenced melodic breakeats of "Sensitive Files" is that most of the tracks use almost the exact same formula so it can start to feel a bit repetitive. Nevertheless, this is quite a good record.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_anginap_sf.htm

L'ombre - Letting Go At The Steering Wheel
Solidly composed and very mature, something that which is lacking in similarly styled recent recordings by other authors and in other labels. If you like melancholy, jazzy, melodic IDM-type music, and want to hear that occasionally mixed with power noise for some reason, then you will enjoy this record.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_lombre_lgatsw.htm

A Wake A Week - Little Black Cloud
All in all, a very impressive album and hard to find fault with it.  The only complaint might be that after the first few listens it isn't memorable enough, but then it's so enjoyable and rewarding when playing that it's clear repeated listening is the only advisable course of action!
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_wakeaweek_lbc.htm

Mandelbrot - Evolution
A fitting tribute to the great great scientist and man that was Charles Darwin and to his work - a fine piece of modern ambient electronica, offering greater rewards with deeper investigation and enquiry. Why not make this album part of the soundtrack to your research?
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_mandelbrot_e.htm

V/A - United Vol.II
It is a sad thing, indeed, when such unheard levels of homogeneity within one genre are reached that a compilation CD could very well pass itself off as one artist's work. "United Vol II", the latest label sampler from the German NoiTekk label, manages somehow to pull this off, though.

Interviews

Swaying In Thisbelief - an interview with Peter Vanek
Peter Vanek (or Peter Van Ewijk to his friends) is a man of many guises. Many may already be aware of Kilowatts & Vanek, his joint project with Jamie Watts, but there's a whole lot more to this man ranging from his own solo material to Dutch cabaret through to a Mediterranean influenced new music project
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_petervanek.htm

Summer Rain Recordings - an interview with David Holmes
Summer Rain Recordings, established in the summer of 2007, is a record label with a difference. Every artist signed to the label donates a minimum of 5% of their royalties for every release to NextAid, or a charity of their choice, and we match their percentage donation from the label profits from the release.

Reviews

Psychic Space Invasion - Transitions
It's hard indeed to describe, or review, what would be termed 'dark ambient' in its purest form such as this. It ebbs, it ebbs some more, and doesn't really flow anywhere except at a glacial pace. It starts out inaudibly, takes nearly two minutes to be heard... But then, when you have forty-one minutes for the single track, why rush things?

Reviews

IP Neva - Symbiosis of Contradictions
Without a doubt, "Symbiosis of Contradictions" is a superb release and, if one is to judge from it, Ivan Prokurin is an artist definitely worth looking out for in the future (whether as IP Neva or by any other alias). Also, as a first release for the young Greek label Impulsive Art, this album raises the bar pretty high for upcoming releases.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_ipneva_soc.htm

Laurent Chambert - Eurêka
I really liked listening to "Eurêka", from beginning to end. It somehow captivated me, because it was so nicely mixed and has a fluid sequence that actually proves the artist's ability to manipulate ambient drones, textures, some little beats and some percussion elements layered with nice, chilled synths, as well as proves his ability to vary sounds.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_laurentchambert_e.htm

For Greater Good - For Greater Good
It is clear a lot of effort has been put into this album, and as a result it contains many accomplished and enjoyable pieces of music. But over the full album, For Greater Good appear to cover slightly too many bases, sounding like two or three related projects, and at times certain unsuccessful experiments seem to bring quality levels down slightly.

Reviews

Hecq - Steeltongued
"Steeltongued" is one hell of a release. Hecq has earned himself a place amongst the ranks of Autechre, Squarepusher and Boards of Canada, both in terms of ingenuity and songwriting skill.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_hecq_s.htm

T/M/K - Need the Needle
For a first contact with the music world of T/M/K (as Textbook of Modern Karate), this was a very unexpected and rather pleasant surprise. "Need the Needle" is one of those releases that in addition to sounding genuine are bound to have some sort of mainstream appeal as well. Easily one of the standout albums of 2009 and a project to keep an eye out for in the future.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tmk_ntn.htm

Tapage - Fallen Clouds
No time is wasted, resulting in an absorbing listen that demands - and gets - your attention for the whole time. Not an album to buy for calming background music, as while on the surface it sounds like it would be, it is nothing of the sort. Instead it is worth investing hours in listening to this a few times to begin to reveal the delights contained within, as it certainly won't work its full magic the first time around.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tapage_fc.htm

Fujako - Landform
Together, producers Jonathan Uliel Saldanha (a.k.a. HHY) and Nyko Esterle (a.k.a. Ripit), having purportedly sequestered themselves in a mountain studio in Portugal, engendered an unforgettable exegesis of post-hip hop norms (if such exist) and pushed the envelope for this genre with startling ferocity. "Landform" won't disappoint.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_fujako_l.htm

Hyios - Consuetudines
Once again, here rises a promising newcomer in the dark ambient/drone scene. With "Consuetudines", his debut album recently released on the US label Malignant Records, this artist from Leipzig, Germany, proves that Hyios is a name worth remembering.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_hyios_c.htm

Pandora's Black Book - Black Brothel
Unmistakably urban, "Black Brothel" is an album with a story to tell, a story which takes place between dimly-lit, smoke-filled basements, littered with the remains of cigarette ash and last week's spilled whiskey, and the dark corners of a delirious mind plagued by creeping paranoia. It is the aural equivalent of a post-modern noir thriller.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_pandorasblackbook_bb.htm

Tyske Ludder - Anonymous
While the "SCIENTific technOLOGY" EP was undeniably political in nature, "Anonymous" seems likely to tread on less toes - especially in non-German-speaking countries, where the majority of people won't have the faintest clue of what they're singing about... In all, it's a far more accessible album, and one that will undoubtedly garner further well-deserved recognition for Tyske Ludder.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_tyskeludder_a.htm

Black Lung - Full Spectrum Dominance
Perhaps what's most refreshing about Black Lung is Thrussell's lack of interest in following musical trends. He has always set his own agenda without any regard for what's zeitgeisty in the wider world of electronica, and that, along with the jaw-dropping clarity of production, gives Black Lung a certain timelessness.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_blacklung_fsd.htm

Horchata - Acytota
A sixty minute powerhouse fashioned from juxtaposed synthetic and organic sounds that don't fall prey to the clichés commonly associated with field recording. Horchata might not be the easiest flavor for your aural palate to digest, yet it's precisely what differentiates it from the artists that suffer from terminal blandness.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_horchata_a.htm

LAN Formatique - The Sadness of Distances
Definitely not the music for the impatient, but for those who see themselves on a journey after a magic stone that will save the civilisation from the creatures that hunt them day and night, desiring their souls. A word could describe the whole of this album: epic.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_lanformatique_tsod.htm

Accomplice Affair - Samotny Horyzont
If you are into ambient textures, nice and lightweight sounds that could actually lift you from the ground if you get into it for too long, then it's great stuff. My suggestion is to turn on the Discovery channel and watch the fish swim through the sea, sit back, put Accomplice Affair on the headphones and enjoy total bliss as it drives your mind into the ocean.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_accompliceaffair_sh.htm

Exocet - Grotesque Consumer
In terms of genre, Exocet operates a subtle blend between rhythmic industrial/power noise and electronica. One could say this has been done many times before by other acts in this scene, but Exocet can be said to really have a trademark sound of its own.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_exocet_gc.htm

Hyperdriver - Naked Aggression
In spite of the angry, unapproachable name of the album, there is nothing here that doesn't cause a minor fit of the giggles. More often than not, it's a case of you going, "What the hell am I listening to?", but it's all entertainment in the purest sense, distracting you momentarily from the drab mediocrity of everyday existence.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_hyperdriver_na.htm

Sleepchamber - Sorcery, Spells and Serpent Charms
Where the music is left to find its own way, to focus on the disorientating swirl of layered sounds that radiate and evolve out of each other, Zewizz's weird but intriguing music style comes into its own. Remove the loops and his music is as dark, ritualistic and unnerving as it comes.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_sleepchamber_sssc.htm

Violet - Violet Ray Gas and the Playback Singers
Utilizing the requisite field recordings, found sounds, CD/tape/vinyl manipulations, etc., Violet presents listeners with an album both disquieting in its peacefulness and jarring in its white noise banality. It is not so much mentally invasive as vaguely irritating, lacking the essential cohesion necessary in an experimental/drone record and likely far more interesting in terms of creative process than actual listenability.

Interviews

Stefan Herwig - Dependent
Although Dependent operates largely in the 'Electro-Industrial' genre, we have no desire to be pigeonholed as such, unlike most of the bands in the 'scene'. With our unique label concept we hope to escape the ghettoization associated with dance or metal and to establish this style of music firmly in the mainstream.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/interviews/m_dependent.htm

Reviews

Alistair Crosbie - Music For Shipwrecks
It's nice to hear someone again just hitting it ambient music from a different angle. This release would most likely have a lot in common with a lot of the Nautilus releases thematically, and I am pretty much sure a lot of fans of The [Law-Rah] Collective wouldn't feel caught short of change if they dipped into their pockets for this one either.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_alistaircrosbie_mfs.htm

Roto Visage / Worms of the Earth - Celestial Malaise
This experimental collaboration between two exceptional artists, Roto Visage and Worms of the Earth, is a journey in sound - it blends and experiments with the genres of glitch, drone, ambient and noise to produce an epic experience for the willing ear and devoted fan.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_va_cm.htm

Poordream - Immaterial Monarch
This album is a taste of what Poordream is capable of and, all in all, a decent collection of remixes. "Immaterial Monarch" is a foreshadowing of treats to come and I look forward to hearing the next release from this talented artist.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_poordream_im.htm

Solar Skeletons - Necroethyl
"Early Cabaret Voltaire gone blues!" If you like really old industrial music and you like blues, or if you just want to hear something unusual the likes of which you've never heard before, give Solar Skeletons a try.
http://www.connexionbizarre.net/reviews/r_solarskeletons_n.htm

Hyperbubble - Better Set Your Phasers to Stun
"Better Set Your Phasers to Sun" sounds like the intro music for a sci-fi themed kids' cartoon where nothing bad ever happens. If you like light-hearted synthpop and are of a generally light-hearted disposition, then don't listen to a grumpy old bastard's opinion and go have a listen to some sweet, sugary sounds.

Sturqen - Sturqen
Sometimes it feels like 'Sturqen' has been jamming away, furiously twisting knobs of various angry synths and cutting out the best bits for us to enjoy. At times the tracks seem to be overtaken by waves of nasty feedback. This does intensify the listening experience, but it also makes it hard to sit through the album in one go.

Mind Disruption - Fuck Yeah!
A few of the songs on this album seem to teeter on the brink of train wreck while others successfully get your foot tapping. "Fuck Yeah!" is sure to go over well with fans of the genre but the chaotic delivery and loose rhythms may leave new listeners wanting more.
