Matmos www.brainwashed.com/matmoswww.matadorrecords.com/matmos
Matmos is M.C. Schmidt and Drew Daniel, aided and abetted by many others. In
their recordings and live performances over the last nine years, Matmos have
used the sounds of: amplified crayfish nerve tissue, the pages of bibles
turning, a bowed five string banjo, slowed down whistles and kisses, water
hitting copper plates, the runout groove of a vinyl record, a $5.00 electric
guitar, liposuction surgery, cameras and VCRs, chin implant surgery, contact
microphones on human hair, violins, rat cages, tanks of helium, violas, human
skulls, cellos, peck horns, tubas, cards shuffling, field recordings of
conversations in hot tubs, frequency response tests for defective hearing aids,
a steel guitar recorded in a sewer, electrical interference generated by laser
eye surgery, whoopee cushions and balloons, latex fetish clothing, rhinestones
on a dinner plate, Polish trains, insects, ukelele, aspirin tablets hitting a
drum kit from across the room, dogs barking, people reading aloud, life support
systems and inflatable blankets, records chosen by the roll of dice, an
acupuncture point detector conducting electrical current through human skin,
rock salt crunching underfoot, solid gold coins spinning on bars of solid
silver, the sound of a frozen stream thawing in the sun, a five gallon bucket
of oatmeal.
Matmos’s latest album “The Rose Has Teeth In The Mouth Of A Beast” is a series
of "sound portraits" of a pantheon of people that they admire. It is at once
Matmos’s most melodic and most conceptual record. They will perform this album
live together with 5 guest musicians on their European tour.

Under his many aliases, i.e. Dabrye, James T. Cotton, SK-1, etc., Tadd Mullinix
has created his own world of unique sounds, from hip-hop to acid techno to
abstract electronics.
Dabrye is just one alias, who shifts through various guises with remarkable
competency and sophistication. As Dabrye, Mullinix explores hip-hop, creating
head-nodding beats with bass lines that reference jazz and electro in equal
measure. It is a combination that has earned considerable praise from both the
hip-hop underground (Jay Dee, Jurassic 5) and the electronic music press.
His new album Two/Three, also feature appearances by Doom (on the "Air" single),
Beans, Waajeed, Vast Aire, Wildchild, Guilty Simpson and many others. The album
was released in June 2006, and the tour is followed by MC Kadence.

“Niko Et La Berlue” the last album from Brussels’ Uské Orchestra's is indeed a
mixture of styles, but not in the avant-garde sense.
For here pop music styles are not referenced, wildly combined and rendered
ridiculous. No, this band rather assembles and stacks microscopic bits from all
possible genres and styles to build teeming musical market places. Uské
Orchestra shows a preference for acoustic sounds, recorded as is. Within
seconds they change the mood, the instrument, the timbre and the arrangement.
If there was ever an award for devious sound design, Uské Orchestra would be
the clear winner.
Just imagine the sound track to The Matrix, performed by a hyperactive brass
band from the Balkans or Mexico.
